Reached by Ally Condie

This was the final book in the crossed trilogy.  It was wrapped up really nicely. It didn't leave me hanging and left me content with how it ended.  Matched of course I thought was great, crossed I was pretty disappointed in.  It went on and on and was just not good until the end.  Cassia, Xander, and Ky are all on their different assignments from the rising, all scattered.  At first you are hearing from each person while they are on their assignments and eventually there are new characters introduced and the plot thickens so they say.  It gets really good.  It becomes more than just a love triangle, things are set into motion that aren't understood and that has to be figured out.  There's more travel throughout the society and even to the outskirts of the otherlands.  I don't want to get into too much detail and give everything away, but the story will take an unexpected turn and you can't help but feel involved in what is happening with these characters.  All strings were wrapped up in the end like I said.  There was complete closure with this story.  I wouldn't say I was really excited about this book because it wasn't the absolute best series I've read, but I would totally suggest it if someone asked. Happy Reading!

Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins

This was another book I had that had just been hanging out on my nook.  I started it Monday and haven't been able to put it down!  ABSOLUTELY loved this book.  It's a great love story with angels, demons and nephilim thrown in.  It's REALLY great.  I wouldn't suggest this to a kid under high school level though because it deals with the seven deadly sins and lust is one of those!  Could NOT put it down.  Really bummed though that the second one won't be coming out sooner.  It's about a girl who comes to the realization that her dad was a duke of lucifer and her mother was an angel.  She's really not suppose to exist and could be in a lot of danger.  She's raised by an adoptive mother as her angel mother died during birth.  Her father has been in prison "working".  She eventually meets another nephilim who then sets events into motion.  Where as most nephilim are full demon, she has some angel in here and has both good and bad natures.  It is such a really good story.  The author really goes into explaining why the demons are a certain way without being to religious and too corny.  I really enjoyed this one and would strongly suggest.  Happy Reading!

The mark of Athena by Rick Riordan

This book is the third installment to the Rick Riordan Lost Heroes of Olympus Series.  Rick Riordan is a great author.  He has also written the Lightning Thief Series which was absolutely GREAT.  A movie was made for the first book, The Lightning Thief, and a movie is in the makings for the second book, The Sea Of Monsters.  Of course the books are always better, so read them before you see the movies!  The reason i bring up the Lightning Thief Series is because I would advise reading that series before you read this one.  This book brings the Romans and Greeks together with a group of 7 demigods going on a quest together to pretty much save the world.  TONS of action throughout the book.  It is a longer book, but every book Rick Riordan publishes seems to be even better than the last.  Since there's so many characters coming together in this book from the previous told story there are many different paths that are taken and explored all while still making it a good story in going back and forth to each group of demigods while they are on their separate quests and even as they come together.  SUPER great story.  Would strongly recommend this series.  Happy Reading!!!!

Darkness Become Her by Kelly Keaton

This was a great read.  Supernatural love story, adventure, mystery, history, it has it all.  This was another absolute steal that I found at Garden Ridge.  $1.99 for a hardback!  I read the inside flap and thought why not, it sounds good and it's $1.99.  SO glad I picked it up.  I think I'm gonna be checking garden ridge more often!  The reason I have two pictures is because there are two covers out there.  I have the one on the left, but there is also the one on the right.  Not sure if this will be a series or maybe a trilogy.  I do know the second installment, A Beautiful Evil, will be available January 1st.  I've found that this also has two different covers.  Weird, I know.  But back to the story.  The story mainly takes place in New 2.  Hurricanes have ravaged the city of New Orleans and it really no longer exists.  The government pretty much disowned it and told everyone to leave that they wouldn't support it anymore.  So New 2 came to be a safe haven for the supernatural and questionable.  There are regular people who live there, but the majority stem from a long history of supernatural.  There are 9 historical families that have been in New Orleans since it was started.  These families pooled there resources and bought
the city from the government and have slowly been restoring parts of the city.  These families consist of vampires, warlocks, shifters, creatures of myth and magic and who knows what else.
Ari has been through the foster system her whole life and it hasn't been a good one.  She's finally ended up with decent parents who love her but understand her need to figure out who her parents were.  She goes on a journey to an asylum in Louisiana and finds out more about her mom, which leads her to New 2.  Once she gets there, all hell breaks loose.  Strange warrior guys have been sent to try and kill her, she doesn't know who to trust, things keep getting weirder and she doesn't know if she can handle it.  She just wants to figure out who and what she is.  I'm not gonna tell you much more, but things get even more interesting when the gods, as in Athena the goddess of war, is introduced into the story along with some Greek mythology.  It's such a great book with a different edge to it.  I'm upset I have to wait to read the second!  I couldn't put this one down!  VERY happy reading with this one I absolutely loved it.

Elixer & Devoted by Hilary Duff

This is a trilogy by yes, Hilary Duff.  I know right?  I thought the same thing and I actually found these at Garden Ridge for a STEAL so I decided to try them out.  They were really good.  The story was very original and I had never read anything like it.  It's a love story about soul mates that go through so many obstacles to be together.  He's drank an Elixer that has made him immortal and she is bound to him so much that they always find each other no matter what.  What I mean by that is she is reborn into a different body and life and somehow they always meet.  Yet they are also cursed in that they are always torn apart by her death, someway somehow.  The main thing that drew me into the first book, Elixer, was when she figured out that "he" was in every picture since her birth.  Never plain to see, always in the shadows so much that she'd have to magnify the picture so even see him, always looking the same and wearing the same clothes.  After that littler discovery all bets are off and the story gets better and better.
As I've said, Elixer is the first story and Devoted the second. I did want to read these back to back and also like I said, I found these at Garden Ridge.  Elixer was $2.99 and Devoted was $1.99 which is weird because Devoted is a hard back.  Told you it was a STEAL!!! The third and final installment, True, won't be available until mid April.  Long time to wait!  If you don't like being left to wait for months on end then I wouldn't even start the series until April because after the first you'll want to read the second and the second absolutely just leaves you hanging.  So you'll be pretty ticked that you have to wait until April!  But the books are very good and it really surprised me that this came from Hilary Duff.  Very Good, must read.  Happy Reading!

Shades of Grey Trilogy by E L James

I decided to wait until I read all three books in the trilogy to post my blog about them.  I was hesitant to join the bandwagon, just because I usually don't do something I'm told I should do.=)  I could relate to Anastasia Steele in this sense!  But I finally read all three and am SO happy I did.  These were such great books.  They were each 350-400 pages each and I read them all three in one week.  Mind you I have a full time job, 2 kids with one on the way and am taking two online college courses.  I MADE time to read these books!  My advice is to not listen to the media about these books, just read them!  The characters are amazing.  EVERY character in these books I fell in love with.  It does get pretty erotic, I will warn you, but it is tactfully done and there is nothing that made me sick or anything like that.  There's nothing "gross" in there.  It is a GREAT romance story that will have you wanting to read until you finish.  E.L. James captured every woman's fantasy.  Having a man that was dominant without losing yourself in the relationship.  When Anastasia literally stumbles into Christian Grey's office you will never expect where the story will take you.  It will make you smile, take your breath away, and tear up in some parts because events will break your heart.  You will become a part of this book and wish you were there!  But I will warn you, buy some panty liners.  Your boyfriend/husband will appreciate you reading these books!  AWESOME story, love love love these books. There's talk of a movie coming out and I will most definitely be in line at midnight for this one!  VERY happy reading with these, I know you'll enjoy!

City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Claire

As usual this series keeps getting better and better.  I have to admit the last book wasn't as great but this one I absolutely did not want to put down.  It really got into Clary and Jace's relationship.  They are a lot closer than in past books and their romance just keeps getting bolder and bolder and it gets intense at some points in the book.  Clary's character is much stronger in this book also.  She's full blown shadow hunter and shows her capabilities well.  Jace's character shows a softer side.  He's more into showing Clary emotion and not afraid of those emotions.  Sebastian is back and the plot gets thicker and thicker as the story progresses.  In the end some of the problem is solved but in true mortal instruments fashion, even more trouble is brought on by the events in the end of the book.  It was such a great book.  The characters have grown so much and I can't wait for the next one!  Very happy reading!!!

Endlessly by Kiersten White

This was the third and final installment to the Texas Lonestar award winning book Paranormalcy.  It has been a trilogy with Supernaturally being the second book.  This was a very good trilogy.  It dealt with you guessed it, Paranormal beings of all types.  From the fey to banshees, unicorns, dragons, vampires, werewolves and more.  In the end Evie has to open a gate for all paranormal beings to go through to get back to their realm.  Evie and Lend are of course tested but their love story is a good one!  It went along with the other two stories seamlessly and there weren't that many surprises.  The characters really came together in this final book but it would have been nice to know what really happened in the end with Lend and Evie.  It gives you a sense of an ending but not a definite one.  I really enjoyed the characters though, they were all very sarcastic and funny; very easy to relate too! I enjoyed this trilogy and know anyone that reads it will too.  Very happy reading!

The Boy Next Door by Meg Cabot

This was another book by the same author of Abandon and Underworld that I just read.  I thought I'd try another, this one wasn't up to par with the Abandon trilogy.  It is a young adult novel. The plot or storyline was pretty generic, we've already heard this story before.  It's just with different characters.  While reading this I could've pictured this as part of a TV sitcom episode or a corny romantic comedy movie.  It's about a country girl who made the big move to New York to make it big in journalism.  She's a writer for a gossip column in a New York newspaper.  Events happen and she's thrown into an unsuspecting relationship with a man named John who is suppose to be Max Friendlander, a popular photographer.  She doesn't know his true identity and the whole book is about them falling in love with each other and him trying to figure out when to tell her who he really is.  Of course she ends up finding out about him lieing to her before he can tell her and it goes down hill but ends up having a happy ending. Yay.  It was kinda corny for me but then I usually don't read these types of books!  If you're into chik-lit this book would be for you.  The other thing I didn't really like was that the whole book is written in emails.  Absolutely no dialogue or normal writing.  EVERYTHING is emails.  Happy Reading!! I'm excited to be on to my next book!

Underworld by Meg Cabot

I LOVED THIS BOOOOOOOOK!!!!  This is the second book in the Abandon Trilogy by Meg Cabot.  I read this 230 page book in a day, I couldn't put it down.  The romance is even more present in this book since Pierce is finally figuring out what she really wants where John is concerned.  You will also find out about more of Johns past and history along with his "friends" that are introduced in this book.  I absolutely love the characters.  Pierce and John are great for each other and as usual after reading this you'll want to have a talk with your man....hehe=)  But it also throws in another problem that has long been there ever since Johns century.  It puts Alex and Kayla in peril just like Pierce.  I won't give to much away!  The last book, Awaken, isn't due out until 2013 though!!! AGH! So bummed about the wait, but after reading these books I will definitely be looking into more books by meg cabot.  Very Happy Reading!!!!

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

This was such a great book!  I've found quite a few great books in a row!  Mara Dyer has had a hard year.  She remembers absolutely nothing upon waking up in a hospital bed surrounded by her family and nurses.  She soon learns that her best friends and boyfriend along with herself were in a horrible building collapse.  The weird thing is that she's the only survivor and the only one that really say what happened that night or why they were even in an old building.  She has such a hard time that her family moves south to Miami Florida to start anew.  Immediately Mara starts seeing her dead friends and is taken to the psychologist and given medication.  She's having more and more episodes that she has no control over and has no idea what they mean.  Things get even worse when she figures out that she has inadvertently killed people by just wishing they were dead.  To make things more interesting the school hunk, Noah, has taken an interest in her.  She it totally not wanting anything to do with him.  Isn't great love stories always how it starts out?  Eventually Mara and Noah find they have quite a bit in common and set off trying to solve all their problems together.  This was a great story with something new around every corner.  I didn't want to put it down, but I must warn you!!!  The ending will totally piss you off.  There will definitely be a second book, but Michelle throws a TOTAL left curve at you on the last page of the book that will leave you closing the book yelling dammit!!!  Will definitely visit Michelle Hodkins website to see what the second book will be and when it will be out!!  Happy Reading!!!!

Abandon by Meg Cabot

This is the first book in the Abandon series and it was awesome!!! Absolutely loved it.  I have to admit I was a little wary of Meg Cabot. Her series the princess diaries just didn't seem like my cup of tea. I've had this book on my flash drive for quite some time and finally decided to give it a whirl.  I'm a sucker for mythology books and a modern twist of a story with gods and goddesses.  So anyways, this involves not hades, but another underworld deity falling in love with a regular human being.  It's mostly a deep love story but there's also plenty of twists and turns and problems that Meg leaves for you to try and think about throughout the story.  The main character, Pierce, has the underworld deity, John, smitten.  He has fallen in love with her and that means underworld creatures such as the furies are after her to make John suffer.  This is such a good love story that is not sappy at all.  As I said there are plenty of other problems that arise and are not just laid out for you, you kind of figure them out along with the characters.  I really want to get my hands on the second book, Underworld.  Very happy reading with this one!!! Especially if you're looking for a great love story without being over the top...

Haunted by Joy Preble

This book was the sequel to Anastasia written a couple years ago.  I thought it was much better written than the first book.  There was more action, romance and way more twists and turns that were totally unexpected.  I really like how Joy twines history in among the supernatural and of course brings romance into it also.  It is one of those books that you actually have to pay attention while you're reading since there are lots of references that pop up later in the story that refer back,  a lot from the the first book.  There will definitely be a third book.  This second book is brought to a close but it is also left open to see what will happen.  This is a really good series, especially for being the first published by Joy Preble.  I would strongly recommend it!  I'll be looking into the third book, Happy Reading!!!

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith

HOLY COW, I absolutely loved this book!!!! I would recommend this book to anyone who likes history.  Yes, there's vampires but they are shed in a totally different light than what you've read before.  The book follows Abe's life from birth all the way to "death".  This story makes you wonder, it was so closely related to history.  It makes you question if it could have really happened the story was told in such a way. I'm not going to tell you too much of the story but I will tell you that when I closed the book upon finishing it i said, "wow".  I've had this book on my shelf for a couple of years and actually had forgotten about it until I saw the movie trailer for it.  I thought the movie looked really good but wanted to read the book before watching the movie.  Now that I'm done reading it I can't wait to see the movie.  I can't say it enough, I absolutely loved this book!!!! Very happy reading with this one!

The Book of Dead Days by Marcus Sedgwick

This book had a bit of history attached to it.  I couldn't quite figure out what time period it took place in.  One of the main characters, Valerian, reminded me of Gandalf from Lord of The Rings.  He was a magician of sorts with an act in the theatre although the story doesn't last very long.  Boy is his loyal slave and helps out with anything Valerian asks of him.  This story is very reminiscent of the mid century play, Dr. Faustus.  Valerian has made a deal with the devil and his time for payment is upon him.  This story is his journey in trying to find a way out of death.  It's not quite clear in details of some of the events but it gives you enough to understand what is going on.  The story only gives you bits and pieces that makes you just curious enough to keep reading because you'll want to have questions answered.  This is only book one, the next book is called The Dark Flight Down.  Although this book was good it wasn't one I was so excited about that I'd go out immediately and get the second one.  One day I'll read the following though, I can't stand to have an unfinished series on my mind.=)  Happy Reading!!!

Incantation by Alice Hoffman

This was a book that has been one of many just sitting on my bookshelf just waiting to be read!  I'm glad I picked this one up, it wasn't adventurous or funny or a lighthearted book by no means.  This was a historical story about the Jews being persecuted in Spain.  It is very somber and is a book full of the truths of evil and cruelty placed on people just for their ways of life and their beliefs.  It's also full of love, life and family, and what is most important in life.  It has strong undercurrents of how you should treat the other human beings around yourself.  It will drag you into the story and won't let you go until the end.  Although the other leaves the ending open, she leaves you with hope.  I think any book about the persecution of Jews needs that hope, it is all that cruelty left them with during those horrible and evil times.  I strongly recommend this book.  It would be a great book to do a report or project on for school.  It is not your typical Jew from Germany story either.  It is a different culture and time and family whose point of view I have never read before and it was very eye opening.  A must read.

The Limit by Kristen Landon

If you are a fan of Margaret Peterson Haddix, you'll love this book.  She even recommends it!  It was fast paced and thrilling and adventurous right from the get go.  It's in a society where the government has started a program for families to recover from debt.  Each person and family has a "limit" that they cannot go over as far as money is concerned.  When the limit is breached there are usually a couple of options made available to families, although one in particular is often used.  This involves the government taking the oldest born child from the family and putting them in a workhouse in order to help the family get out of debt.  Matt is one such kid that was taken but his particular workhouse isn't quite right.  Kids are having severe headaches and some are even having seizures.  No one is really noticing anything though.  He isn't receiving any emails from home which is really odd.  Also he's caught the head lady in a couple of cover ups and small lies.  Why would she lie?  The more Matt digs, the more illegal activities he discovers about this workhouse.  They can't do these things to children can they?  Will Matt find any incriminating evidence? and if he does how will he get out?  This was such a good book, I didn't want to put it down until I finished!  Strongly recommend!!!  Happy Reading!

Wake by Amanda Hocking

I received this book in the mail from the publisher as a sneak peak.  I believe this one comes out August first, but I could be wrong on the date.  Amanda Hocking is the author of the Trylle Trilogy which I would recommend to everyone!!!! I absolutely loved the Trylle Trilogy.  Wake falls into the same category of Trylle.  Wake is a story that totally unique and all it's own.  It involves a small east coast town and a very modern family with their own set of problems to overcome.  4 strange girls show up right before the tourist season and everyone takes notice.  They are glowingly beautiful and draw every man's and some women's eyes as they walk down main street.  I won't give up exactly what they are, I'll leave that a surprise.  But i will tell you that they look to recruit because there always must be 4 of them.  The story involves the gods, sirens and mermaids.  This will be such a great book for you to delve into for the summer.  And there will for sure be two more each coming out 6 months apart.  Amanda Hocking is really establishing herself as a great writer.  I love her.=) Definitely a must read for the summer.  Happy Reading!!!!

The Dead Tossed Waves by Carrie Ryan

This was the second book to The Forest of Hands and Teeth.  I have to admit I read this months ago, but life has been going on and I'm just barely getting to blogging about it! The start of the book threw me off a little because of the starting point of the story, but once I got my bearings it was a great continuation.  The main character in this story is the daughter of the main character in the previous book.  They still have the same problem but there are new problems that pop up and new twists and turns.  I still think it's comparable to Resident Evil but on a less gross scale.=)  It was thrilling and adventurous and there will definitely have to be a third book that I will look into.  This has been a good little series that I will definitely watch for.  Happy Reading!!!

Supernaturally by Kiersten White

This was the follow up book to the previous I read, Paranormalcy.  It wasn't "oh my gosh" better, but it wasn't horrible either.  It followed along the same lines as the first book. Evie is struggling with herself and wanting desperately to find out about where she came from and who she is. She is questioning her relationship with Lend and wondering if it will even last. New characters are introduced and it makes everything "suspicious".  This story line keeps you constantly wondering and guessing motives and outcomes of situations that arise.  But again, Evie is an awesome character.  You can't help but feel sorry for her as she discovers who she really is and be happy once she figures out what is really important and what is the most important thing to stand up for in her life.  In the acknowledgements Kiersten does say there will be a third book.  She doesn't give any hints as to what the story will be though.  I'll definitely be on the lookout for it though 'cause I want to know how Evie and Lend end up.  Another good story and on to the next.  Happy Reading!!!!!!

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

It should tell you how good a book this was by how quickly I read it! I finished this book in a day! It has 160 pages but it is one that once you start you'll really want to finish to find out what happens.  Evie, the main character is an orphan and was found by a paranormal agency that tracks down paranormals such as werewolves, vampires, faeries, and just about any creature or mythological beast you thought didn't exist. Something strange starts happening with the paranormal population though. They're starting to die and no one knows how or why. Turns out a new creature comes forward and starts all kinds of problems.  Evie already has issues with faeries, namely  one named Reth, and this new creature doesn't help anything! I really like the characters that Kiersten has come up with.  Evie is so confident and funny. The way Kiersten writes flows so easy and she sucks you into the story, which is what I really like.  I'm actually halfway into the sequel to Paranormalcy, which is Supernaturally and it is just as good.  I will definitely be looking for other works from Kiersten.  Happy Reading with this one! I would really recommend this one!

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

Cue the fricken hallelujah chorus!!!!!!!!!!!  I finally finished this book!!!!!!  This book is a little over 400 pages long.  You could honestly start at a little over 200 and still know or figure out what is going on.  The last 100 pages were good, but then it ended....This book was a waste of time.  It was like a slow soap opera that took forever to just get to the point.  I did like the main characters Puck, Sean & Finn.  They were a good mixture of funny, serious, quirky, goofy and weren't characters that you wanted to smack.  The story is mainly about horses.  There's an island called Thisby where a certain species of horse are found. They come from the sea and are known as water horses.  But just as sweet as land horses are, these water horses are mean and deadly.  They are carnivores and will eat anything in their path, including humans. Every year there is a race, The Scorpio Race, where men of the island race with their lives. This story is about Puck and Sean racing for reasons that will change their lives.  Along the way they find each other.  Like I said, the last 100 pages are good, but other than that don't waste your time! It's a shame because Maggie's Mercy Falls Series was so much better! FINALLY on to the next!

Hallowed by Cynthia Hand

This is the book that follows the previous book I read, Unearthly.  Oh it was so good.  If you have read the Hush Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick you will love this. I have the  most popular book cover pictured here but I found 3 different ones! So just an FYI. But Hallowed picks up just where Unearthly left off.  Clara is still having trouble coming to terms with her decision where her purpose is concerned.  She also has another vision where she knows someone dies.  This stirs up even more problems.  Samjeeza also starts giving the angel-bloods a lot more grief.  But Clara & Jeffrey learn a lot about their heritage in this book.  They find out who their dad is, that there are many more angel-bloods in the community, and they learn some of their mothers past.  There's more twists and turns and it keeps getting better! Clara also is having trouble facing the truth where Christian is concerned, she's having to fight her conscious of should she be with Tucker who she absolutely loves wholeheartedly or should she be with Christian whom she has this undeniable connection with who she is finding out more each day is her destiny. As usual I am not going to get into too much detail, but I absolutely could not put these two books down until I was done with them.  Hallowed just came out this past January so is still fairly new.  A third book is coming BUT it doesn't have a title or cover yet and isn't even due till the beginning of 2013!!!! So upset when I found this out! Hallowed leaves you with so many unanswered questions so if you haven't started to read Unearthly yet I would suggest not starting it until the third book comes out.  Or you can go ahead and read them like me and be agonizing over the time span till the third book will come out!  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these books.  Happy Reading!

Unearthly by Cynthia Hand

I loved this book.  Once I got into it I absolutely could not put it down.  It's about angel-bloods, beings that are part human and part angel. This story is in particular about a split family, the mom being half angel & the dad human. Their kids, Clara & Jeffrey, are quartarians since they're a quarter angel.  The have powers that start to manifest and of course they have the wings. Their destiny is to find their purpose and figure out how they are suppose to help or save or whatever it is they're suppose to do.  Clara gets her vision and figures out where they need to go. So they move from a big city to a small mountain country town. Clara is an outsider and she has to be careful to not let her powers or as the angels call it, Glory, shine through unexpectedly.  When her emotions start to play a part in her destiny and the person she falls in love with, her decision will change everything.  Like I said, I couldn't put this down.  Clara is a good strong female character, there's plenty of mysteriousness and intrigue.  Of course there's a great love story that isn't sappy.  You can really relate to these characters and you can't help but want to know more about the angel stuff.  I loved it.  I'm downloading the second book, Hallowed, after I'm done typing and will start reading!  One of the BEST ones!  Very happy reading!!!!!!

SUPER EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!

Super excited. I will be leaving in about an hour or two to go see the midnight showing! CANNOT WAIT!!!  Will definitely post to let you know how it measured up to the book!!

Legend by Marie Lu

If you liked the hunger games, you would like this book.  It wasn't as high action packed as the Hunger Games though.  It was more along the same lines of a Dystopian society and the government being totally corrupt and immoral.  "Day" turns rebel, kinda like Robin Hood, and starts stealing from the government to give to the poor sectors. Things take a twist when he's accused of killing an officer, something he doesn't do.  The sister of Metias ends up searching for Day to find justice.  But he's not at all what she expected and things quickly get very complicated. Something is brought to light and completely changes the game.  I didn't think it was anywhere near Hunger Games, but there were a lot of similarities that you could compare. The main characters were all strong and very likable. I really liked their personalities and their resourcefulness.  They are all crazy fit as in running along rooftops, jumping from windows, fighting, and super smart.  I enjoyed it but I'm excited about going on to the next book.  As usual Happy Reading!!!!

Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver

This was a great follow up to Delirium.  Delirium left you with Lena escaping into the wilds and Alex stuck on the other side of the fence getting supposedly killed by officials.  Pandemonium starts exactly where it left off with Lena running through the woods.  The format for the book is a little different.  There aren't numbered chapters, instead there now & then and keep switching back and forth.  It was a little confusing at first, but once you get used to it it's such an awesome story the way its written.  This is a gritty story compared to Delirium. Lena has to turn tough in order to survive in the Wilds.  She's found near death and taken in by some of the other invalids.  Once she's nursed back to health she's thrown into the rebellion against the officials. I can't say too much about the storyline because it would give away the  twists and turns=)  But Lena's character is so totally grown up and tough in this book.  She's faced with so many choices and heartaches and decisions that further the story and make it gut wrenching! Warning: You will be thoroughly pissed off at the end because it drops a total show stopper in the last paragraph! But I will be counting the days and watching the Internet for the third installment.  This series is awesome!!

Entwined by Heather Dixon

This was such a wonderful story.  It is definitely only for chiks, but it is such a father/daughter book.  It's romantic and fun but at the same time all about family and that special relationship that is between fathers and daughters.  It started off a little slow but the story really grew on me and about midway I didn't want to put it down until I was done.  It wasn't the absolute best book I've read where specifics are concerned.  The story was pretty vague on details.  Like the exact time, or the setting.  There are no descriptive details as far as "where" this castle is, but the castle and grounds are described in the story.  It's almost a little weird how much I enjoyed reading while at the same time wondering about these details.  There is a queen and king who have 8 girls. The very beginning of the story the mother dies and the lives of the girls is thrust into turmoil.  This story is in a time period where rules where strictly enforced and there was a code of conduct that was adhered to or there would be consequences.  When the mother dies, the family is in mourning, which entails closed drapes, absolutely no color other than black for clothes, no visitors, no going outside and definitely no dancing.  This story is all about the girls surviving this year getting to know there father, which they were never close to.  They never even called him dad or father, it is always Sir.  But over the year they get to know eachother better and their father has even figured out a way to get around the "mourning" rule so Azalea the oldest can start scouting suitors.  After I was done reading this one and was really thinking about it, there was a lot of things that left me saying, "I wonder why I didn't notice that while I was reading..."  Heather Dixon wrote a good enough story to keep you wanting to read more to find out what happens without being too vague.  It was a fantastical wonderful book though.  I would compare it to the Penderwick books.  Happy Reading!

I Am The Messenger by Markus Zusak

This was a book that's been on my radar for quite a while and I finally got around to reading it.  It definitely is an adult book.  Somone in high school could read it, but I don't think it's one a high schooler would actually pick up.  It's not a fast paced heart pounding book, but once you read it you'll be glad you did.  It's a VERY feel good book about being a better person and helping other people out and just paying it forward. Ed is your ordinary guy who is actually an underage taxi driver.  He lives in the slums along with  of his other friends.  His dad was a drunk, but a gentleman and recently passed away.  He's had a rough life.  One day he and his buddies, Marv, Ritchie and Audrey, are in the bank when it is being robbed.  The story starts there and you immediately love Ed and his friends.  They are so sarcastic and such smart asses that they're hilarious.  You can't help but laugh out loud at their comeraderie. Uncharacteristically of Ed, he foils the bank robbers' attempts and saves the day.  That starts a series of him getting cards.  He goes through aces of each suit and becomes a messenger of sorts.  He changes peoples lives and in the process becomes a better person himself.  He never knows who's behind the cards though and you won't find out until the very end.  This wasn't the fastest book that I've read and it did take me longer to get into, but I really liked it.  It was a good feel good book about humanity.  I would definitely suggest this book to the "older" crowd.  Happy Reading!

Wither (The Chemical Garden #1) by Lauren DeStefano

If you like all the postapocolyptic type books, this one is for you.  I loved it.  It's in a world where North America is the only continent "supposedly" left after a huge world war. There is a virus that is affecting the life span of children and no one has an anticdote for it.  The life span for the new generation is 20-25 years.  That young of an age has quite drastically changed things! Girls are getting pregnant at age 13 now, as soon as they possibly can.  Wealthy people send what is called gatherers out to find girls to experiment on in order to hopefully find an anticdote.  But this story follows Rhine as she and her twin brother are trying to make their life better after their scientist parents die in an explosion on their lab. She is kidnapped on her way to apply for a job and thrown in a van with a handful of other girls.  Their are taken to the middle of nowhere and are put in a lineup.  She and 2 other girls are chosen while the others are herded into the van and shot to death.  The three girls chosen, Rhine, Jenna and Cecily, are to become sister wives to a man named Linden.  Their sole purpose is to bear children for his family, but things don't always go according to plan.  Cecily is a 13 year old ready to please her husband and get pregnant while Jenna is almost at the age of succumbing to the virus and Rhine just refuses her body to her husband.  Jenna puts on an act towards everyone and Rhine ends up sneaking kisses and glances at a servant.  Rhine has become first wife and is trying to use her privelages to escape.  I'm not going to give anything else away and let you find out for yourself, but this story is GREAT.  I would highly suggest it.  It's more for highschool and up though, I don't think middle school age could handle it.  It does talk about intimacy and childbirth, but no gory specifics.  Happy Reading!

the Dead & the Gone by Susan Beth Pfeffer

This is a follow up book to "Life As We Knew It" also by Susan Pfeffer.  It was just as gut wrenching as the first also! It was the same even happening but in a different city. Alex is part of a puerto rican family immigrated to New York City. On the day the meteor hit the moon, Alex's mom was working in the hospital across town, his dad was in a small village in Puerto Rico at a funeral and his brother was in the Marines somewhere leaving him to be with his two younger sisters.  With tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes erupting and the government in chaos, Alex must find a way to take care of Bri and Julie.  They haven't heard from their mom at all, but with the subway systems flooded, her outcome can't be good.  Julie though their dad called, but she can't be sure since there was so much static.  They do know that food is starting to get scarce and money doesn't mean what it used to.  Alex is left to barter coats, jewelry, shoes and whatever he can find for canned goods.  In this day an age, canned salmon and tuna are gold and canned pineapples are a treat. The things that Alex and his sister witness and have to go through are so frightening because in reality it could really happen. This was not your happy go lucky book, but it was very good, just like the first.  There is also a third book called This World We Live In that sort of combines the two books and picks up where they left off.  I have already added it to my list! VERY good, would highly suggest.  Happy Reading!

The Vespertine by Saundra Mitchell

This was another book I saw in my book fair at school and thought I'd read it real quick.  It was REALLY good.  It was a little confusing at times but not too confusing to want to put the book down.  It is in a historical time period that I would have loved to been in.  Reputation is everything and if a girl is caught walking with a man alone or even walking by herself after dark her reputation would be stained.  A girls life is to find a respectable husband, marry, and be a good wife.  Amelia lives in the country and her brother sends her to spend a season with her cousin Zora in order to find a respectable husband.  Once she gets there she finds herself in a forbidden romance with someone below her station and discovers by mistake that she sees visions of the future once she looks into the sun, or her element fire.  This was such a good book for any age starting around intermediate ages.  The romance during this era was so passionate but appropriate.  Nothing like you hear today.  I will definitely be looking into the companion novel for this one and anything else that Saundra has written!  Very happy reading with this one!

Down a Dark Hall by Lois Duncan

This was another that I picked up from the book fair at my school.  It was a quick read in that yes it was a shorter book but it was a thriller and you wanted to know what happened next. It was mysterious from the very beginning and didn't stop until the very end.  I actually  have never read a thriller mystery with this plot.  Yes, it deals with some supernatural forces, but this is actually a little scary! Lois Duncan is known for her suspense thrillers and this one is right along those lines.  Kits mom has just remarried and her mom and new step-dad are going on a honeymoon tour of Europe. So while they're gone Kit is enrolled in a boarding school.  Upon arriving, Kit feels a horrible evil about the place.  She will soon realize that she couldn't be more right. She finds it odd that there are only 3 other girls that show up on the first day.  Everything starts to build and when she finds out that none of their letters have been sent to their friends and family she hits the roof!  Everything is absolute non stop excitement from there that I won't be giving away!  This is a good one if you need a quick read to hold you over until you get a certain book or if you just love thriller, mystery and suspense.  And chances are if you love this one then you'll love everything Lois Duncan writes! Happy Reading!

The Prince of Mis by Carlos ruiz Zafon

This is a book that I picked up as a quick read from my school book fair.  I try to read quite a few from it so I can point kids in the right direction while attending the book fair. This was a pretty good supernatural, scary, thriller, mystery.  It reminded me of a book I've read called The Stone Child.  It's aimed for young adults but I really enjoyed it.  It follows a supernatural evil who knows what as it makes "deals" with people.  It grants people their wishes and in return asks for a favor.  Usually it is in the form of a life, like the wishers or their first born.  The author gives you a story vague enough to wonder whats going on but not too vague to leave you completely lost and not understanding. You never really quite find out what exactly "The Prince of Mist" is as you'll find out towards the end of the story that he mentions he is called by many names.  He does mention that he is evil and from Hell.  At first I thought maybe vampire but then it just doesn't give you a definitive answer.  But the story is mainly about a business deal that was struck and didn't come to fruition so The Prince of Mist is out to get what is his.  And all the while two kids, Alicia and Max are trying to unravel the mystery.  Max figures out that everything is revolving around a five pointed gold star.  He figures everything out too late though...I'm not giving you the ending of the story though!  At the end of this story there is a Q and A session with the Carlos and James Patterson.  It was really good because you get an insight of why Carlos left things so vague and what his reasoning were for the setting.  It was very interesting to get inside his head.  James Patterson asked some great questions.  Carlos did mention that this is the first book in a trilogy but that they don't necessarily drop off and let the other pick right back up.  It's more of a companion trilogy in that it's the same aesthetic with a supernatural evil against good.  After the story there is a sneak peek at the next book, The Midnight Palace, which is already published. The third book is September Lights.  I would read the others but they're not high on my list right now.  This book was perfect for younger readers though.  Happy Reading!

Ballad by Maggie Steifvater

This book came after Lament.  Not so sure if I liked it or not.  There were good things and bad things.  I really like reading about the Fey and faeries, whatever you'd like to call them...but in this second book it's focused more on James.  James is one hilarious dude.  I would date him in a heartbeat if my heart didn't belong to my wonderful hubby.=)  He's down to earth and SO sarcastic he's funny.  But it's about his journey that he goes on after meeting a faerie, Nuala, that's actually not quite a faerie.  Dee is in this book also, but the story isn't really about her like Lament was.  She had a part to play, but her part in it made me want to slap her.  Her relationship with Luke was non existent in this book which I thought made no sense since according to Lament they were suppose to be madly in love with each other.  It was just weird.  James' story was good though.  It was so funny.  I was laughing out loud at a lot of his comments.  I just didn't really like how there was no flow from the first book to the second.  It's almost like they should have been their own stories and had nothing to do with each other even though they had the same 2 main characters.  It was just awkward at moments in the story.  It wasn't my favorite at all but it was a decent read if you have nothing else on your shelf at the time.  Happy Reading!

Lament by Maggie Stiefvater

This is not the first book by this author that I have read.  She also wrote The Mercy Falls Series, Shiver, Linger, & Forever. That series was a different version about werewolves. Lament is the total other end of the spectrum!  Right now there are two books in the Books of Faeries Series.  Ballad is the sequel to Lament. This book was another amazing retelling of a modern version of The Fair Folk, or The Fey.  It had a lot of Irish culture and Fey culture mixed in with the story.  Ultimately it was a love story. ( A REALLY good one!) There's was a few choice words that dealt with bad language, but nothing no one's every heard before and it was in context.  Dierdre is an amazing girl that is perfect in her role.  Maggie chose to describe her characters perfectly and I absolutely love them!  Dierdre has a huge talent for playing the harp and has a beautiful voice. Once she performs at a competition things start to pick up.  She finds out that the women in her family are tied to The Fey in that The Fey have always wanted to carry them away because of their talents.  Luke shows up and its a mystery as to who or what he is until about halfway through.  His "job" is to kill Dierdre for the Queen but you'll see how that ends up!  The ending was bad per say but I didn't like how it ended!  I'm hoping it will amend itself in Ballad.  Luke and Dierdre are perfect for each other.  Who wouldn't like to be called "my pretty girl"??? Boys need to read this and take notes!!!!  Happy Reading!

Dead Beautiful by Yvonne Woon

Once again this was another book that I have no other book to compare to! The story was totally unique and I haven't read anything like it.  It is a take on life and death and what effect love has on both.  Renee found her parents dead on her seventeenth birthday, mysteriously in the woods with coins on their eyes & scattered on the ground along with gauze in their mouths.  The police said they died of heart attacks but Renee is skeptical.  Her parents were still too young to have heart attacks, and at the same exact moment?  And why were they in the woods?  With no one left her estranged grandfather comes to claim her.  He insists she come home with him from her home in California to the east coast in Maine.  She soon finds that the private academy she attends is no ordinary academy at all.  Adding to the mysterious death of her parents, there seem to be more and more mysterious happenings surrounding Gottfried Academy that somehow tie into her parents deaths.  Add into that Renee's supposed soul mate Dante who is also mysterious and handsome and this story is very good.  I won't give away anything, but I didn't put this down until I was done.  It's very good.  You can't help but feel some sympathy for Renee and route for her.  I'm going to immediately start the second book of this series called Life Eternal.  Happy Reading, this was a great one!

Incarceron by Catherine Fisher

This is a futuristic sci-fi thriller.  I will be honest, I didn't think I would last through it and I was frequently looking at the page number on my nook to see when it would end.  It was VERY hard to get into because the author throws you into the story without any pretext of what in the sam hill is going on.  So for about the first half of the book it's very confusing.  VERY.  After midway through though things were slowly explained a little bit and it started picking up and becoming more adventurous and thrilling.  There's also a lot of plotting and "game playing" as Claudia calls it.  I'll try to give a short summary without giving away too much.  The book takes place in the future after there was a big war.  Incarceron was made to be a "paradise experiment" of sorts.  Now time and space and all that physics stuff will play into this book big time.  On the outside of Incarceron there is now a monarchy and the court has decided that the world needs to go back in time so everything is more simple.  "Protocol" says that things should be specifically to a certain era back in time where servants wore powdered wigs and breeches, women wore extravagant dresses and technology was illegal.  But of course not everyone follows protocol.  Claudia lives in a turn of the century mansion filled with servants and has her own tutor, a Sapient as they're called, but yet there's a washer and dryer in the servants' quarters.  Claudia has never really known what her Dad actually does as Warden.  But the story starts to unfold as She and Jared, her Sapient tutor, discover some clues as to what Incarceron really is.  But what Claudia doesn't know is that Incarceron is nothing like a paradise but a prison.  Where food is scarce, it is survival of the fittest and nothing is happy.  The sunlight is not real, the animals are not completely real and it is the hardest life imaginable.  Finn, who does not remember anything beyond a certain time is focused on finding out who he really is.  Every now and then he gets "visions" that he begins to think are memories.  Once Claudia and Finn realize what is really going on, the journey just begins.....
After the story got better in the end, I'd want to read the second one (Saphique), but it's not on the top of my list right now....happy reading!

Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare

This is the second installment to the Clockwork series coming after Clockwork Angel.  I forgot how much I absolutely love Cassandra Clare.  She also wrote the City of Bones Series that is still going with the 5th book, City of Lost Souls, to be released soon.  This book was unimaginably good.  Her characters in her stories draw you in and you feel like you know them.  Tessa, Will, Jem and the gang are still looking for Mortmain.  There are adventurous journeys they go on to try and find clues as to what Mortmains next move will be.  They know he hates Nephilim and for some unknown reason he wants Tessa.  You are still left asking questions at the end of this book about a lot of that plot.  But Cassandra totally threw me off with a love triangle that SHOCKED me!  You will smile and then you will question why? and then you will feel like you want to cry for these characters!  There was more romance in this book than actual fighting and battles and what not, but this book was SO good.  I know I say that about quite a few books that I've read, but you should absolutely put this series to the top of your list!  So go get to reading Clockwork Angel and PLEASE let me know what you think!  I'd love to hear it!  Happy Reading!!!!!!!!!

silence by Becca Fitzpatrick

I'm using my phone to write this, so a picture will be coming later. This was the third book in this series. The first was Hush, Hush and the second was Crescendo. This book was SO awesome I read it in one day! Seriously! I was worried at first since it's been a while that I've read the first two but I picked it up pretty quick. Things really pick up right from the start. Nora wakes up to find herself in a cemetery not knowing how she got there or remembering anything leading up to her being there.  She soon discovers that she's lost 5 months of her life. She can't remember anything! She keeps seeing flashes of black and eventually remembers who patch was but not what he means to her. She slowly starts to figure everything out discovering some lies and secrets along the way. Hanke, her biological dad ends up building an army of Nephilum and plans on taking them into battle against the fallen angels and archangels. This was a pretty emotional book as Nora is practically starting from square one where her feelings for patch are concerned, but the end is great and it is left open for another book! This series is a must read! For cryin' out loud I read it in a day! Happy reading!

Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake

Glad I'm finished with this one.  If you know me then you know that I have to finish a book I start.  I think there' been maybe one book that I had to close and just say no.  This was one I couldn't wait to get through so I could get on with the next on my list. The cover looked so good though!  It's about a line of ghost hunters, you know the usual story.  A Mom, Dad, and son scour the globe in search of ghosts that are killing people.  The Dad is the ghost hunter and the Mom is a white witch, or a Wicca witch.  A demon ends up killing the Dad and the son is left to inherit this bizarre job of killing ghosts.  A special knife that has been passed down through the family is left to him in order to complete this task.  He gets a tip of a ghost who is called "Anna dressed in blood" because she's always seen in a white dress that isn't really white because it's literally dripping with blood anytime she's seen.  So once the ghost hunting family comes to town to get rid of Anna, things start twisting and coming together all at once.  Anna starts getting into his head because something is actually controlling Anna and having her kill countless people.  It's all about them getting rid of her and finding the demon that killed his Dad.  Honestly I can't even remember the main characters name without having to look it up.  It was a typical "ghost" story.  Very predictable, not many surprises.  I will warn you it's kinda gory and there's some language.  I found it in the young adult section at the public library though.  The story didn't pick up steam until the end of the story.  The highlight of this book was the cover and the ink color was a deep red. Woohoo right?  I wouldn't recommend it, it was a waste of my time.  Unless ghost stories are your thing you might like it.  I love fantasy and supernatural and this just did not do it for me at all.  Even more disappointing was that Cassandra Clare was quoted on the front cover! Bleh.  Can't wait to finish the next book I've already started!

The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter

LOVED this book.  Katherine Winters' mom is dieing of cancer and wants to go to her hometown.  Upon arriving weird things happen and one night she's faced with a decision whether she should save someone drowning in the river while also facing her fear that she can't swim.  That decision sets into motion events that will change her life forever.  Once she drags her "friend" to the banks she's noticed the blood everywhere and figures out her "friend" hit her head on rocks when she dove in.  All of a sudden a handsome guy named Henry steps out and tells Katherine that he'll save her friends life if she'll come and live with him at Eden Manor for 6 months out of the year. Sound familiar?  This is such a good mixture of different elements though.  There's an underlying current of romance in the beginning that starts to be more bold towards the end.  There's constant speculation and mystery throughout the entire story and towards the end it turns into suspense!  You can't help but feel for Katherine in what she's going through.  Her character is presented in a modern way that I think a lot of girls can relate to even though they might not have ever gone through what she does in the story.  I was laughing out loud during some parts and almost crying in others.  Once you get to the end you can't help but rout for Katherine and Henry.  VERY good modern twist on a gods and goddess story.  It was recommended by Cassandra Clare, author of the City of Bones Series and Clockwork Angel Series.  I think this will end up being a trilogy also.  The second book, Goddess Interrupted will be published in March of this year.  Looking forward to it!  On to the next!!!!!!!!!!!

Possession by Elana Johnson

First off, you would like this book if you've read The Hunger Games Series, Divergent, or any other Dystopian Society novel.  I will say it wasn't as good as Hunger Games BUT Possession took a totally different approach.  So yes they're in the same realm of eachother but they're totally different at the same time.  The book is set in a dystopian society to where there are different regions.  There are also what are called "Goodies" and "Baddies".  Then there's the Association full of Thinkers and they are the ones that control society or brainwash them.  The story can get pretty complex at times so you really need to pay attention.  I'm finding it hard to explain actually!  The story is mainly centered around Violet, or Vi.  She is trying to find herself so to speak.  This society that she is in is full of advanced technology and people that have "special powers".  She turns out to be one of those people because she has a sensitivity to tech which means she can control anything pretty much.  She can also will anyone or anything to do whatever she wants them to do through thinking it.  This is why the association wants her, so she can control what the people do and think, a.k.a. brainwash them!  This story turns out to be a wild ride of who are the good guys, who are the bad guys, do i trust him or him?, it's crazy!  Of course there ends up being a love triangle between Vi, Jag, and Zenn.  What good book doesn't include a love triangle right?  But it was a very good story, very different, something totally new.  I loved Vi and Jag.  Vi is a little firecracker anyways and I think she's hilarious.  I'd love to be friends with her! But her and Jag together make the best couple EVER!  They feed off of eachother and their banter in the book is great.  It had me smiling and laughing sometimes.  They always seem to make such a dire situation to seem like nothing at all.  But I really enjoyed it and I know you will to!  I REALLY hope she comes out with a second one cause it leaves you asking questions without flat out saying there will be a continuation of the story.  PLEASE MAKE ANOTHER ONE!!!!  Happy Reading everyone=)

Tempestuous by Lesley Livingston

As usual, when a good series I've gotten so into ends, I'm sad!  This was such a great ending to the series.  Lesley did a great job of hooking in the reader throughout the whole series without making the reader fill bored or wanting it to end.  Everything culminates in the end with a big battle and there are some wammies that will leave you open mouthed saying, "whhaaaaattt".  But even as these wammies are thrown at you, the story is coming together for the close and all loose ends are being tied up.  The relationship between kelley and Sonny are tested big time in this last book of the trilogy and I'm not letting on to how they end up!  But their relationship wasn't all over each other and it left you wanting more and to keep reading to find out how it ends up.  There's even more mysteriousness amiss when King Auburon and Queen Mahb become ill and no one knows what is causing their illness.  A lot is left up to Kelley and Sonny to figure out and save the otherworld of the Fey and to protect the mortal world on top of that!  I thought this series was great, it wasn't too much of anything to limit the age although there are a few choice words that I wouldn't let a fifth or immature sixth grader read.  But then again, they've probably heard it before!  I would definitely recommend this book and wish everyone Happy Reading!

Darklight by Lesley Livingston

This is the second book to Wondrous Strange and it was just as good if not better than the first.  Kelley now knows her lineage and is still trying to figure out the new parts of her life.  Sonny has been sent to the otherworld to take care of remnants of The Hunt.  Things start to get heated though when a curse or charm is placed on her necklace that inhibits Kelley from using her faerie magick and she is practically mortal again.  I liked this book because you get to know King Auburon and Queen Mahb and the other back stories. It lets you get to know them a little more and maybe know why they act the way they do.  You get to know everyone on a deeper level than in the first book.  Kelley still has a lot of trust issues where the fey are concerned but she is learning how to deal with everything.  Her relationship with Sonny gets more complicated and the ending will surprise you and make you cry!  I won't give anything away but I'm starting on the third book and I'm hoping Lesley makes it a happy ending for Kelley and Sonny but I don't know that it will with the way this one ended!  I love books about the fey, I find them interesting and very intriguing.  So this second book in the series was up there in rankings and I can't wait to get through the third book, Tempestuous, to find out how they fair!  Happy Reading!
